Une fois par mois, nous vous proposons de participer à nos visites guidées ou sorties EN ANGLAIS aux alentours d’Aix-en-Provence.

Elles sont ouvertes à tous : anglophones et non-anglophones, étrangers, touristes, voyageurs d’affaires, familles, etc.

Au cours des séances hebdomadaires, nous préparons ces visites pour acquérir le vocabulaire et les expressions spécifiques dont nous aurons besoin. Ces séances sont intitulées « Préparer une visite« .

Après la visite, nous pourrons également échanger et réutiliser nos connaissances autour d’un verre et au-cours de la prochaine séance en groupe !

Once a month, we offer you to join our guided tour or visit IN ENGLISH around Aix-en-Provence.

English speaking people, Non-English speakers, foreigner, tourists, families : everyone is welcome !

First, attend the « Prepare a visit » class to know helpful vocabulary and expressions.

After visiting, we can share opinions and reuse our knowledge around a drink and during the next « Prepare a visit » class!

Jill Steenhuis, an Atlanta native, has lived in Aix-en-Provence, France, since 1980, painting in the landscapes of Provence.

« By The Way » organise a meeting with this fantastic artist in her workshop, to learn more about her and her art…

A big, no a huge 😉 thank you to Jill (the artist) for this fascinating art lesson and these wonderful family stories… All « By The Way » members have been captivated and we, all, learnt a lot! Your house and workshop are amazing and your welcome so warm and friendly!

Thank you to Helen, our american teacher and sister of the artist: nothing could have been possible without her!!! She had done the perfect class before to prepare us for this event! We had all the vocabulary to understand the techniques and explanations of the painter!

We’d looking forward to meeting Jill again next year, if we could!

MARCH 14TH 2021 : ONLINE IRISH PORTER CAKE FOR ST PATRICK

COURS DE CUISINE EN ANGLAIS POUR LA ST PATRICK

IRISH BAKING CLASS FOR ST PATRICK

What you need:

225g Cream Plain Flour
Pinch of Salt
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 to 1 teaspoon of Mixed Spice (for e.g. nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, cloves)
55g Golden Caster Sugar
110g Butter
225g Sultanas
150ml Stout (for e.g. Guinness beer)
1 Egg, beaten

Method :

Preheat oven 180°C/350°F/Gas 4. Line a 20cm/8″ round cake tin with greaseproof paper.
Sieve the flour, salt, baking powder and mixed spice into a bowl and add the sugar.
Rub in the butter and add the fruit and mix.
Add the stout to the beaten egg and add to the mixture. Mix well.
Transfer to the prepared tin and bake for 30-40 minutes depending if you have a fan oven or not.

Note : If top of cake is browning too quickly, cover with a double layer of greaseproof paper until baked.

EACH YEAR, in every class we choose a « cooking week », one or two of our best recipes and realise them !!! It is great, we have fun and it is as delicious as efficient to learn English/French!
